 Counselling
for positive wellbeing.

Who is counselling for?

I believe there isn't a hierarchy of problems, and that only some should be discussed. To me, anything that impacts your life and is important to you is worth talking about, particularly if it takes away your peace or makes you feel; ill, confused, distracted anxious or sad. Therefore, counselling is for anyone.

Some people have one thing that is upsetting them, others have things from the past they struggle with, some people are not sure what is upsetting them and may come with one thing and another one emerges. This is completely normal.

I have worked with people in different capacities for over 30 years, latterly in the education system and so have many years experience working with all sorts of issues including; anxiety, low mood, self esteem issues, relationship issues and effects of breakups, effects of grief and loss and lack of satisfaction with life.

I work with adults, young people and children aged 8 and above.

How does it work?

My style of counselling is fundamentally Person Centred, whereby I don't profess to be the expert on your problems but work with you to find a solution, led by you. This is done in a safe, non judgemental empathetic, professional way.  However, I also feel that sometimes other ways of working might help, such as Cognitive Behavioural techniques, relaxation techniques, solution focused work, working creatively, Inner child work or working with nature. Therefore, I can offer an integrated approach rather like having a tool box, where different tools are used according to the situation. Everybody is different and whilst they may have similar issues no two people react the same or need the exact same approach. This is only done if you want to and feel completely comfortable. There are no expectations.

You may only want one session to try and make sense of things or have regular sessions, together we can then look at how helpful they are and when you feel things have changed. This is different for everybody.

I have a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy along with extensive continuing professional development on many of the above issues. I am Walk and Talk trained.
I am a registered member of the BACP and work to their Ethical Framework. I have insurance and am CRB checked.
